Before they arrive
- Set up a safe room with food, water, a litter tray (away from food), a bed and hiding spots.
- Kitten-proof: hide cables, remove toxic plants, close off small gaps.
The first week
- Let them explore the safe room first; sit quietly and let them come to you.
- Keep feeding the food they're used to, then transition gradually.
- Book a vet check; ask about vaccinations, worming, fleas and microchipping.
- Introduce other pets slowly, through scent and a barrier at first.

When can my kitten meet the whole house?
Once they're confident and eating well in the safe room — usually a few days to a week.
How many litter trays?
A good rule is one per cat plus one spare, in quiet, separate spots.
